Random Thoughts
Giants have two big series coming up. The season is near the end and the Giants are now 4 games back of the Rockies for the Wild Card. We just lost 2 out of 3 from the Padres and it seems like the world is about to end. Okay it doesn’t feel that bad.
I was pretty excited to see Bumgarner get his first start. He’s only going to get so much more better. Did you guys see the way this guy can swing it? I was thinking lets move him to 1st base and bat him cleanup!
Matt Cain takes the mound Friday night against the Dodgers. We need to catch some fire and end this season on a hot streak. We have had the same problem all year. We have the great pitching and just can’t seem to score runs. We get guys on and hit double plays. We get guys on and can’t bunt them over.
We have players that aren’t pulling their weight. I’m on countdown mode for Rowands contract to end. Winn can’t seem to catch a cold from the right side of the plate. I know no one wants to see stone hands Lewis in the outfield. He’s an ok pinch hitter, but seems to strike out every other AB. Another guy that seems to always strike out to me is Ishikawa.
I’m just glad the Giants don’t have a game tonight. At least we can’t lose right? =) I’m still in…. It’s not over till it’s over!

Giants, Cubs & Random Thoughts!
Lincecum
Lincecum is 2-0 at Wrigley Field. He’s on the mound today for the Giants. Giants fans are hoping Lincecum can get the win and split the 2 game series with the Cubs. After this 2 game series the Giants head to Colorado to play another 2 game series before a weekend series with the Dodgers.
Who Wants to hit?
Giants players are struggling at the plate. Jesus Guzman was player of the week in the minors and has been playing first base. He’s been hitting some home runs too, so I’m sure the Giants are really thinking about brining him up. Emmanuel Burris has been in a slump since the season started. The Giants also might be thinking about calling Kevin Frandsen up too. Giants are getting to the point where they will need to shake things up for these players to score some runs.
Pablo Sandoval
The Giants have decided to rest their hottest hitter Pablo Sandoval. They don’t want to wear him out so since they are facing a lefty today. They will give Juan Uribe the start at 3rd. Pablo Sandoval’s first impression of Wrigley Field is it’s old and he was disappointed that there wasn’t any ivy on the walls. He will have to wait till the playoffs or next season to see it with the Ivy.
It’s now game time, so I’m sure I will have another blog later on today’s game. Go Giants!

All Systems Go For Opening Day!
Today is Opening Day for most teams, and it’s obvious excitement is in the air. I have logged on to MLBlogs and seen so many new blogs in the most recent activity area. I have seen blogs that I never seen before. Everyone is pumped and wants to write about it. Today is the day that every team is still in it and has a chance to be #1. I really wanted to take today off to watch some games, but I decided to work today. I’m going to be off work tomorrow, so I can watch the Giants Opening Day against the Brewers.
As a Giants fan I was pretty damn happy watching the Braves game last night. It was nice because the season was finally starting. Just seeing how good Derek Lowe looked. That must make all Giants fans happy to see him pitching like that for any team other than the Dodgers. =) I can’t believe the Dodgers didn’t even try to get him back. Something else must have been going on. It was not even a question if he will return to the Dodgers once he became a free agent. Everyone knew he was going to end up pitching somewhere else.
Since I’m also playing Fantasy Baseball this year. I did have some other interest in the Braves game. I have Brian McCann as a player on one of my teams and he did hit a 2 run home run. My other player is Shane Victorino. He didn’t do anything last night, so thanks for nothing Shane! lol
Well all I can do today is check scores and highlights from teams playing. I might watch the A’s and Angels game tonight. Just getting myself pumped and ready for Lincecum and the Giants tomorrow. I heard there is chance of rain tomorrow. This game better not get cancelled cause then I might have to take another day off to see their first game. =) I get Lincecum tomorrow, Johnson on wed. ( my b-day) and then I’m going to the Sharks game Thursday night. Talk about a very nice week for me. =)

KNBR Interview with Emmanuel Burriss recap
I listened to an interview the other day on KNBR the Giants flagship station. Murph and Mac were interviewing Emmanuel Burriss. Emmanuel Burriss is a
switch hitter. He’s a little more athletic than Kevin Frandsen and Burriss can also play short too. The Giants did want him to be the everyday shortstop but he was making some errors, so they decided to go out and get Edgar Renteria. Burriss is now fighting for the 2nd base job with Kevin Frandsen. Burriss started late at switch hitting. He started in college. He’s been trying to get stronger from the left side. It’s his primary focus to be consistent from the left side this year. He hopes to steal some bases this year if he plays full time.
When asked about the 2nd base battle with Frandsen. Burriss said Kevin and him are good friends and hang out a bunch. They both push each other very hard to help each other. Just to make themselves better and help the team. Burriss came up as a short stop but the Giants moved him to 2nd base. One of his favorite players growing up was Roberto Alomar. Burriss grew up a fan of the Braves, Orioles and liked the Giants cause his dad liked the Giants. Emmanuel Burriss father was a big fan of Willie Mays and Willie McCovey. Burriss introduced his dad to McCovey and said that’s the first time he seen his dad act like a little kid.

Angels vs. Giants recap….Today in Baseball History…
Tim Lincecum is scratched from making the start. He has the flu, so Jeremy Affeldt gets the start. He’s not a starting pitcher. He’s going to be a reliever this season for the Giants. Figgins did lead the game off with a hit. Affeldt then struck out Kendrick. The next hitter is Matthews. Figgins then stole 2nd base and then stole 3rd base. Matthews then walks to make it 1st and 3rd with one out. Torii Hunter then hit a double to get 2 RBI’s. Kendry Morales (who also is on my fantasy team) then hit a double to get an RBI. Juan Rivera grounds out to end the inning. Eugenio Velez starts the Giants first off with a single. Rich Aurilia then walked setting up 1st and 2nd. Bengie Molina then hit a 2 run double. The guys on the radio said if anyone else would have been running for Molina it would have been an in the park home run. Everyone knows Bengie is the slowest guy in baseball. He still did his job driving runs in though. After 1 inning it’s the Angels 3 and the Giants 2. The 2nd inning was 3 up for the Angels and 3 up for the Giants.
No scoring in the 3rd inning for either team. The Angels also didn’t score in the top of the 4th. Nate Schierholtz strikes out swinging but gets to first on the wild pitch. Juan Uribe then gets an RBI double to tie the game at 3. Kevin Frandsen gets a RBI single up the middle to score Juan Uribe. This giving the Giants a 4-3 lead. The Angels answer right back in the top of the 5th by score 2 runs off of Bob Howry. Bengie Molina gets an RBI single in the bottom of the 5th inning to tie the game up at 5. Nothing exciting in the 6th inning offensively for either the Giants or Angels. No runs scored in the 7th inning either.
The Angels take the lead in the top of the 8th inning by scoring 2 runs. Then two wild pitches by Luis Perdomo scores another Angels player giving the Angels a 3 run lead. On Perdomo’s 2nd wild pitch he walked the batter and the batter ran all the way to 2nd base. Perdomo then tried to pick him off and threw it wild again. This allowing the runner to get to 3rd base. The Angels end up with 3 runs in the top of the 8th and the Giants have no answer back this time and go scoreless in the 8th. Now it’s the 9th inning. If we (Giants) were up. I would call this the Nenth inning. I always called it the Nenth inning for Rob Nen. Man this guy was a great Giant closer. Well the game is now over and the Giants wouldn’t get another run. Out of the last 9 Giants to bat there was 5 strike outs.
Angels get 8 runs, 10 hits and 1 error. Giants get 5 runs, 8 hits and 2 errors.
There was only two Giants players with multiple hits. Rich Aurilia went 2-2 with a walk and scored 1 run. Bengie Molina went 2-3 with 3 RBI’s.

Just some quick thoughts from 2 Spring Training Games…
Yankees – Astros
Russ Ortiz pitched 3 solid innings today for the Astros. He’s trying to win the 5 spot in the rotation for the Astros. He did have one bad pitch. That turned out to be a home run for Angel Berroa. I was listening to the game online and I heard a name that sounded so familiar. It was Cody Ransom. He was a Giant a while back. He never really made it big, but I was glad to hear he’s still playing. I don’t think he will make the Yankees opening day roster but he did play 33 games for them last season hitting .302.
Mike Hampton got lit up today. He gave up 4 runs on 6 hits in 2 innings. He did manage to get 2 strike outs.
Giants – Royals
I love listening to baseball on the radio and I must say Giants fans are really lucky to have the guys we have on the radio. Today KNBR the Giants flagship station is not doing the game. I had to listen to the game with the Royals radio guys. All I can say is I feel sorry for Royals fans that have to listen to the games on the radio. These guys were just so blah. I mean I don’t want to say they were bad, but they were just so boring compared to Jon Miller, Duane Kuiper, Mike Krukow and Dave Flemming. They did make me laugh one time. One of the guys told the other one that he’s already in mid season mode (the way he was calling the game). Then the other guy says why cause of all the (Royals) errors. It just made me laugh out loud.
The Giants didn’t play that great today. Matt Cain gave up 3 runs on 5 hits in 1.2 innings. I didn’t really get much better for any other Giants pitchers except the Giants closer Brian Wilson. He 1 inning allowing 0 runs. The Giants had 8 different pitchers in this game. Dave Roberts had an 0-3 day and still hasn’t managed to get a batting average yet this spring training. Burriss went 2-3 to to help his battle for the 2nd base job. The only other Giants player with 2 hits was Torres. The final score of the game is Royals 14 and the Giants 5.
The other Bay Area team.
The Oakland A’s have signed Orlando Cabrera to a one year deal. They signed him for $5 million less than what he was asking for this off-season. Orlando signed for $4 million. This means Bobby Crosby will no longer be the starting short stop. He will play a utility role or be traded. I was actually excited to see how Crosby would do this season. I’m sure he will have a fine season in whatever role he is playing this year. I guess this signing means Nomar might be retiring. He said last week it was the A’s or retirement.

Thoughts on Giants, Dodgers Cactus League game 2/26/09
Matt Cain started the game for the Giants. He did give up a home run to Russell Martin. Cain did look good today. His fastball was 90-93 mph, curve was good, but his change up was really impressive per a Phillies scout who was at the game. Pat Misch only pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up 5 runs on 5 hits.
The Giants blew the most leads last year with their bullpen. That’s why the Giants went out and got Jeremy Affeldt and Bob Howry. They think with the addition of these two guys. The Giants should add a lot more wins this season. Well right after I just wrote that. Jeremy Affeldt gave up 4 runs and 5 hits in the 7th inning. I’m sure that’s not what Giants fans expected to see, but everyone knows it’s Spring Training. Now if this was the end of Spring Training then we would have something to worry about.
Travis Ishikawa went 1-2 with a double and scored a run. He’s starting off hot so far this spring. He doesn’t plan on losing the starting first base job. Pablo Sandoval had an 0-3 day and leaving 4 men on base. Center fielder Aaron Rowand had a home run and went 1-3.
Juan Uribe went 2-3 and hit a 2 run double in the bottom of the 8th to cut into the Dodgers lead. Uribe was picked up to be utility player but he can very well make a push for the starting 2nd base position. As for the 2nd base battle. Kevin Frandsen went 1-1 with a walk, run and RBI. Emmanuel Burris went 1-2.
The Dodgers went on to score 6 runs in the 9th inning against Sergio Romo. The Dodgers couldn’t touch Romo last season. Jon Miller was calling him the Dodger killer. Romo didn’t give up any runs up to them last season. I’m glad it’s only spring training. The final score ended up being 16-7. The Dodgers got 16 runs on 17 hits and 1 error, and the Giants had 7 runs on 12 hits and 1 error.
Just an fyi… I can’t stream the game on the radio cause MLB blocks the stations from streaming it. You must purchase MLB radio for $14.95. I decided to just order it. It gets you every game for the season, so I can listen to other teams when the Giants aren’t playing. I love it! =)
